I squeezed in a good 8 mile run Friday morning and there's a six miler today.
Besides that, the weekend was entirely devoted to driving across New York and Massachusetts, a great deal of over the top celebrating of a Bat Mitzvah, and some really wonderful reconnections with old friends.
Other than seeing people we love, the highlights of the weekend would have to be Jon and Michael doing the Hora, Audrey falling in love (again) with New England, and (for me) driving across Massachusetts, which always feels more like home than any other place to me for funny reasons.
Moving the giant red van which is visible from space through the ultra narrow one way streets of Providence, RI (which was built in 1650 when nothing on earth was as wide as our van) was a feat to behold.
I was reminded of someone else's description of turning the very large van into a pretzel and squeezing it out the wrong direction on a one-way street when Jon executed some breathtaking U-turns in spaces which are smaller than our glove compartment. What a man.
Daniel got his cast off Friday, just at the last moment before we embarked on this trip.
His X-ray revealed that his foot is not fully healed, but the clinic could not re-cast him that day (!).
So we were instructed to avoid all sports and jumping and see how he did (!).
We had a good talk with him about "No sports or jumping".....but this boy has got to move.
Turns out there was a basketball court at the temple where the Shabat service was held, and he was there playing ball while I was hunting up bagels and Jon was surrounded by old buddies having one of those perfect, well deserved, moments with old friends.
It was some time later that Dan announced that the doctor was "crazy, I played basketball at the temple and I was just fine..." There followed a second talk about no jumping and no sports.
Then, there was a "twist contest" late Saturday night. Daniel is not clear on the finer distinctions between twisting and break-dancing. And I was upstairs in the hotel putting Maggie to bed. And technically, nobody said Daniel was not allowed to break-dance.
When he heard there was a prize and the judging was based upon audience applause, he threw himself onto the middle of the dance floor and started break dancing like Jimmy D and Jojo.
Of course, he won the prize.
Now his foot is "sore", and it appears we are heading back into the hospital today for a new cast.
