Having tidied the house for the weekend, we headed off for groceries for the week, Post office, dry-cleaning, good-will, etc.
Older kids had stops and purchases they need to make, so they were dropped off here and there with walkie talkies.
I ended up in Costco with only Maggie and Daniel.
Friday at Costco is nuts.
Daniel (still on crutches) had to share the shopping cart seat with Maggie *for the first time*. She looked dubious when I crammed him in beside her.
Daniel, for those who don't know him, is the sweetest, funniest, goofiest, wiggliest, loudest, most lovable, and just generally the MOST six year old boy we have ever heard of.
Maggie loves him. She also likes to have a buffer zone around her.
Moving at top speed through the crowd, we got to the checkout in record time. I was running behind the cart, obviously over-caffienated and a touch distracted.
Dan was teasing Maggie all the while by kissing her and blowing on her, and once I even saw him lick her neck.
Then, in the checkout line, he asked her to bite his finger.
He asked several times.
I was focused on getting my cart filled so I could go fetch kids at the bookstore.....
Then I heard the most ear piercing howl.....wondered "what on earth...." and "who could be making that sound?"...... everyone around me stopped... and turned toward me.....slowly I realized.....Maggie had Dan's finger between her teeth and would not let go. It was Daniel screaming, like something from a haunted house tape.
I am without dignity at Costco already, having once dropped not one, but two of those large blueberry boxes on the floor..... a carpet of tiny berries rolling under every cart.
Anyhoo.....now Daniel has a cast, crutches and a semi-masticated index finger.
As well as the dent in his forehead from the hockey puck.

I'm sorry for the loss of dignity at Costco...but you've told this story so well that you have me in stitches. I am laughing and feeling sympathy at the same time, of course. I hope poor Daniel recovers quickly. And that you recover quickly as well ;-). (Now watch, next time I go to Costco both girls will melt down and I'll spill something all over the floor...)
If those nice girls every get that crazy at Costco, I want to hear about it Katie!
I'm thinking about you guys for Thursday.....
Oh, Missy -- thank you for making me laugh:)
