I got some complaints on my email about being a slack blogger. Sorry....I'm embarrassed at my lack of progress, so I have been hiding.
But in honor of Dr. Seuss's 105th Birthday, I am back. He is considered a great literary genius by some people at our house. And, as I have mentioned before on t his blog, two of my daughters have the same names as Dr. Seuss's two wives. It's just a coincidence, but I don't mind using it to make us sound like we're members of his family.
For those of you who have asked "How are you going to find time to read 100 books and run that much?" (....some have asked this to my face, and others of you have mentioned the impossibility of my task to your spouse, privately....)
I am here to confess that, at the moment, I am not doing very well.
I had this fabulous trip to California with Jon which was basically six days with nothing on the agenda.
I did read on the trip, but only half as much as I had hoped. Mostly, Jon and I sat staring blankly at each other or the blue horizon as we let our heads clear in the ocean breeze.
And there was the pelican that pooped on my book....that slowed me down for a bit.
The down time has done me a world of good, and I am facing every day here at home with exhiliarating zest and better vision. That's nothing to sneeze at, but it doesn't make for good blog posts.
I am running, but not as much as I should.
Instead, I have done a fair bit of time on the LifeCycle, and am about to declare that until the stupid weather gets nicer, I will just keep pedalling.
I can read on the LifeCycle, and that is a tremendous advantage over running in -14 with a headwind.
So here is where I am today: I am plodding through Liberal Fascism (which is a real eye-opener, I thought I was the only one out here who didn't have a clear understanding of what fascism really is....turns out even scholars of fascism don't agree on a definition.)
At the same time I am reading Thucydides and noticing that he isn't near as much fun to read as Melville was. I have just a couple of chapters left in True Spirituality.
I have finished Ulysses, and the Iliad. The Iliad is delightful and beautiful.
I have decided that Ulysses should be read on it's own for one year with 100 study guides.

Yeah, you're back! I'm glad California was so restorative. It sounds to me like you are doing very well. If running in this weather is freezing your lungs solid, please come and use our treadmill. Maybe you can read on it - I've never tried :)
Hope Daniel is doing well.
